Bonal, Gentiane-Quina, Quinquina Digestif, Jura, France NV 16% abv
SWEET, EARTHY, & SPICY. BALANCED, ROBUST TEXTURE
This classic aperitif was created in 1865 by a monk, pharmacist, and doctor, Brother Raphael (whose real name was Hippolyte Bonal). Collecting wild herbs and plants on his meditative walks in the Chartreuse Mountains, he studied their properties, eventually creating this fortified wine. Its complex, appetite-stimulating flavors come from a blend of chincona bark, gentiane, and infused herbs in a mistelle base.
Serving Suggestions: Traditionally enjoyed neat or w/ a twist, as a digestif. It can enhance classic cocktails in place of stronger amari. Works well w/ Scotch, rye, brandy, & agave spirits.
