Poggio di Bortolone, Cerasuolo di Vittoria "Contessa Costanza", Sicily, Italy, 2018
{organic} 50% Frappato, 50% Nero d’Avola
BRIGHT CHERRY & CASSIS VIBES, PEPPERY HERBS, RICH YET RACY
Cerasuolo, southern Sicily’s eponymously cherry-like combination of Nero d’Avola and Frappato, brings together the seductive red-fruited perfumes of the latter and the structure of the former to famously vibrant, fiercely food-friendly effect. Frappato has classically been a bit of a workhorse, providing gentle reds for local Vittorian consumption, but its been gaining a lot of cred among wine enthusiasts over the last decade thanks to the fastidiousness and ingenuity of a handful of forward thinking producers.
Serving Suggestion: Flatbread or pizza w/ ricotta, sausage, eggplant, & onion. Stromboli w/ sun dried tomato, spinach, & olives.
