{organic} 80% Carignan (120+ year old vines), 20% Grenache
PROVENÇAL HERBS, BLACK RASPBERRY, VIOLETS
Wicked old-vine Carignan, like 150 year old, is the base of this Corbieres called Mazerac. Martine Pages uses these ancient vines to great effect, polishing their power with slight aging in small barriques. What comes through is a fantastic expression of Carignan, packed with dried black raspberries, garrigue (rosemary, thyme, lavender), and a slightly smoky earthiness. The inky purple color of this wine is backed up with the essence of violets. Her best vintage in a decade!
Serving Suggestion: All grilled meats. A salad of fresh frisée topped w/ sautéed chicken livers & gizzards then drizzled w/ pan drippings w/ sherry vinegar.
