Domaine Chiroulet, "La Cote d’Heux" Blanc, Gascogne, France 2017
100% Gros Manseng
TANGY APRICOT & EXOTIC CITRUS, FLORAL SPICE & GENTLE TOAST
Gros Manseng is a grape which frequently hides in the depths of crisp whites from Gascony, often occupying only minute percentages of such blends. Each time we taste a deliciously vibrant and aromatic wine which showcases the grape in a larger role (100% in this instance), we lament the fact that we don’t encounter more Manseng! Domaine Chiroulet, a sixth generation estate, brings us this dazzling example filled with tangy citrus, ripe stone fruit, beautiful floral perfume, and a kiss of toasty spice.
Serving Suggestion: Roasted quail w/ young asparagus lightly & butter and a drizzling of lemon juice. Vietnamese seafood soup w/ gigantic shrimp, mussels, tamarind, & basil. Savory fried plantains w/ tomatoes & onions over a bed of baby spinach.
