Alvilla do Avia has its feet firmly planted in two crowded houses: it’s one of the many exceptional native varieties of northwestern Iberia and is, conversely, among the not-insignificant number of unrelated grapes commonly referred to as “Albillo.” Despite this familiar moniker, it’s unique to Ribeiro and is a decidedly rare treat for adventuresome wine lovers. Its aromatic appeal is distinctive and exotic with a mint-like, herbaceous immediacy which bolsters its citrusy assertiveness.
Serving Suggestions: Spicy, deep fried Humboldt squid strips & perilla leaf pancakes. White bean salad w/ cucumbers, mint, pine nuts & lemon vinaigrette. Tinned fish!
