Domaine Labranche-Laffont, Pacherenc du Vic-Bilh Sec, Southwest, France 2022
{organic} 70% Gros Manseng, 30% Petit Manseng
BOSC PEAR & CLEMENTINE, WISPY GARDENIA, ALMOND
If you have heard of Pacherenc du Vic Bilh, you deserve a pat on the back. This rarely seen white wine from Madiran is one of France’s best kept secrets. In fact, Christine Dupuy produces just a few hundred cases per year. The wine is aged on its lees and develops additional complexity in French oak for 2 months before bottling. This dry white tastes of almonds and hazelnuts with pear skin, citrus, tangy apricot and the ethereal perfume of gardenias.
Serving Suggestions: This is best with traditional SW French dishes like Poule au Pot or Poulet Basquaise. Flaky baked trout w/ dill and a fresh chick pea salad w/ heirloom tomatoes & sweet yellow onion.
