John and Susan Kiers bought a 100 acre farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley back in 1996, looking to grow grapes in the valley’s cool climate and deep limestone soils. After several years of selling their fruit, in 2010 the couple decided to build their own winemaking facility and began making their own wine. Today they’re joined in the winery by their daughter Harriet, the family producing some exciting wines with 23 acres of planted vines. This vivacious Grüner offers aromas of clean citrus and honeyed peaches, rounded with flavors of pineapple and pear, studded with classic white pepper minerality.
Serving Suggestion: Grilled scallops w/ nori, ginger, and lime. Vietnamese lemongrass chicken w/ coconut rice. Zucchini, feta, and leek gratin.
