“Delicate for Gigondas” shouldn’t suggest that a wine is delicate, but this more fruit & spice-driven offering from the Southern Rhone’s home of hardest-hitting, most brooding offerings is indeed a gentler rendition than the proverbial textbook might suggest. Reddish berry fruit and fresh, food-friendly acidy stand above the brooding black fruit, earth, and tannin that are first and foremost hallmarks of the appellation.
Serving suggestion: Vit nau cam (Vietnamese twist on duck à l’orange w/ addition of lemongrass, lime, Thai chilies, & ginger). Roasted sweet potato enchilada w/ grilled mushrooms, red peppers, & sour cream.
