Steindorfer, Blaufrankisch “Ried Kaiserberg”, Burgenland, Austria 2019
BLACKBERRY & CHERRY, VELVETY ALLSPICE & JUNIPER
While Zweigelt may be the first name that springs to mind when thinking of Austrian reds, Blaufränkisch is quite literally its pappy. This example deals in the variety’s signature black fruit and typical firm yet gentle structure, generously ripe, balanced, and very versatile as a companion for food. Steindorfer’s vineyards are northeast of the sprawling, shallow Neusiedler See, the largest lake in Central Europe.
Serving Suggestion: Bohemian roast pheasant w/ caraway seeds & white asparagus risotto. Eggplant & taro root leaf curry w/ cumin, coriander, & cinnamon & riceberry rice.
