Tegernseerhof, Riesling Federspiel "Dürnstein", Wachau, Austria 2017
LAZER DRY. PINEAPPLE & TANGY MANGO, LIME & RICH MINERALITY
This stunningly complex, dry Riesling from a steeply terraced, hillside vineyard site in Austria’s revered Wachau region is the kind of wine that makes red-wine-only drinkers change sides or shows Riesling skeptics the error of their ways. It’s also the kind of wine that you must take home right now. It’s that good. Martin Mittelbach is already one of the greats in this most prestigious (and reliably expensive) of Austrian regions, but, like him, his reputation is still young, and his wines represent some of the most impressive values one could reasonably (or even unreasonably) hope to find from the Wachau.
Serving Suggestion: Smoked trout w/ dill & lemon crème fraiche. Czech potato pancakes w/ caraway seeds, oregano, & sour cream.
