It’s fitting that an estate founded in 1903 would make a wine in the style of that era. Dark rose? Light red? It’s clarete, a field blend of red and white grapes that was the tradition in the Ribera del Duero before the region became a red wine superstar. Field blend means that rather than blending lots in the winery, the red and white grapes in this single vineyard of vines 80-180 years old are harvested and fermented together. Made with almost no human help (no technology or SO2), wines like this are like drinking in a time machine. Everything old is new again!
Serving Suggestion: At the height of summer try it with charred chicken thighs on the grill – skin-on, bone-in of course – in a sweet-n-spicy BBQ sauce. In the cold of winter let it pair across a whole holiday feast table: from the turkey or prime rib to the sweet potatoes and stuffing.
